The card is a strong fit for US recipients who read, study, or shop for gifts, because it works across a broad catalogue: new and used books, textbooks, toys, games, music, movies, magazines, and Barnes & Noble cafés. For a remote workforce spread across the country, the online redemption at BN.com is particularly useful; for a metropolitan team, the physical stores add a local option.

This card is issued in US dollars and can be loaded with any amount from $3 to $500. There is no expiry date and no maintenance, dormancy, or service fee on the balance, so the recipient keeps the full value until they spend it. It can also be used to buy a Barnes & Noble Membership, though continuous billing memberships still require a credit card on file.

A recipient in the US redeems the card either in a Barnes & Noble store, at any Barnes & Noble College bookstore, or online at BN.com. At checkout they enter the gift card number and PIN. The card is not reloadable, and any remaining balance stays on the card for future purchases. It can be combined with other payment methods for orders that exceed the card balance.
