About Commown France

Commown is a French cooperative that rents out electronics, from smartphones to computers, with a focus on repairability and longevity. Instead of selling devices that push customers to upgrade, Commown keeps ownership and offers a subscription that bundles the device, repairs, and maintenance. A Commown gift card in France pays for those subscriptions on commown.coop, covering the cost of renting a device for a set period, not the purchase of the device itself.

The card is issued in euros and available in fixed amounts of €20, €30, €50, €100, and €150. There is no custom amount option. The gift card is valid for 12 months from issuance. Each card must be used in a single transaction and cannot be combined with another Commown gift card, though it can be used alongside website promotions. Shipping fees are already included in the subscription price, so the card goes entirely toward the rental cost. Please note that this card is only valid in France; Commown does not currently offer cards for other markets.

Recipients redeem the card directly on commown.coop when paying for a subscription. The voucher amount is applied at checkout. If the full value is not used in one transaction, the remaining balance is lost, so it’s best to use it on a subscription at least as expensive as the card’s value. Commown’s catalogue includes phones, laptops, and other devices, with a strong emphasis on Fairphone and other repairable brands, but selection can be narrower than mainstream retailers.

Commown’s model makes sense for recipients who care about reducing electronic waste or who want a device without a long-term purchase commitment. It’s particularly relevant for people in France who prefer renting over owning, whether for financial flexibility or environmental reasons. Because the card is tied to online redemption on a single website, it works for remote teams or distributed recipients who are comfortable managing their subscription online.

Through GIFQ, you can send Commown gift cards in bulk from the dashboard or one at a time via API. That makes them practical for paying research participants, rewarding employees, or thanking customers in France who would appreciate a sustainable tech option. The card is not a general-purpose payout; it is tied to Commown’s subscription service, so it’s best for recipients who are likely to want what Commown offers.

Before sending, consider whether your recipients are based in France and interested in renting electronics. The card cannot be used to buy devices outright, and it cannot be converted to cash. It is a good fit if you want to support a circular-economy business and give people a way to use a phone or laptop without owning it.
