About groceries gift cards
Grocery cards work best when a recipient needs everyday essentials rather than a discretionary treat. They suit employee food allowances, customer appreciation gifts, research incentives for household shoppers, and any payout where the recipient should not have to choose between a treat and a necessity. The category has more than 150 brands, covering supermarkets, convenience stores, and delivery services. The main limitation is that most cards are tied to one chain or one country, so a multi-market program usually needs different cards per region.
The strongest brands are the big national grocers. Carrefour covers hypermarkets in France, Spain, Italy, and several other European and Middle Eastern markets, making it useful for regional programs. Tesco serves the United Kingdom and Ireland with a wide range of groceries and household goods. LuLu Hypermarket is a reliable choice in the Gulf, especially the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Albert Heijn is the dominant supermarket in the Netherlands, and Kaufland is a low-cost hypermarket chain in Germany and Eastern Europe. GrabMart works differently: it is a delivery service across Southeast Asia, so a GrabMart card pays for groceries delivered to the recipient's door.
Italy has the most brands in this category, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom. Other strong markets include France, Australia, Germany, and Singapore. But coverage differs by brand, not just by country. A Carrefour card may work in several countries, while a Tops Market card is specific to Thailand. If you are sending to recipients across many markets, check each card's supported countries before you commit.
Face values are local and practical. In euros, cards start at 0.01 EUR and go up to 2000 EUR. US dollar cards run from 5 USD to 500 USD. British pound cards start at 0.01 GBP and reach 2500 GBP. Australian dollar cards go from 5 AUD to 1000 AUD. That spread covers a weekly shop or a month of groceries, though not every brand offers the full range.
You can send these cards through GIFQ in bulk from the dashboard or one at a time through the API. An employer might give a monthly food allowance via Carrefour or Tesco cards, a research firm could compensate participants with a LuLu Hypermarket voucher in the UAE, or a delivery platform can reward frequent users with GrabMart credit. If your recipients need something more flexible, a general shopping card from Retail & Marketplaces may fit better. For a card that works at many different types of stores, look at Prepaid & Payment Cards.
